Our Outdoor Play Area is a purpose built play centre designed to provide an exciting, challenging and stimulating experience for Early Years children up to the age of 5 years. Enclosed outdoor play area provides children a safe way to explore a range of outdoor activities. It is furnished with equipment for physical play, sensory play and imaginative play and designed to give children the maximum space to be able to move freely.
Our 0-2 classroom is a spacious, comfortable, naturally lit classroom, allowing the children to move freely around the class, exploring all areas of learning. The classroom is provided with age-appropriate resources and is designed to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere in which they can thrive. Although 0-2 year olds have a limited attention span, activities are carefully planned to follow the children’s interests, extending their learning and help stimulate their development. The 0-2 class provides a mixture of structured and free play.
The 2-3 classroom has been designed into activity zones, closely following the EYFS curriculum. The areas are created in open spaces to allow the children access at any time with support from teachers and peers whether the play is teacher led or free play. The 2-3 class is the prime age of discovering and opportunities are available in each area for a child to develop independence, socialise and also support the cognitive growth and intellectual curiosity. The classrooms also facilitate and encourage the development of each child’s creative capabilities.
The 3-4 classroom has also been designed into activity zones, closely following the EYFS curriculum. The areas are created in open spaces to allow the children access at any time with support from teachers and peers whether the play is teacher led or free play. The 3-4 class is equipped with age appropriate resources to enhance development and stimulate young minds.
Also within the 3-4 class there is a separate room that runs freely from the classroom, the ‘Nature area.’ This area allows children to explore different textures, sounds and resources from around the globe. The children are able to open their minds and gain knowledge about the materials, where they are from and their purpose. The children use their senses to explore the material.
Friends Nursery is very passionate about the Montessori Approach and has a separate Montessori Area within the Nursery that is situated outside the 2-3/3-4 year old classrooms. The Montessori Area is a positive area to engage with children in small groups to stimulate their cognitive development.
The centre piece of the Montessori approach is allowing children to learn on their own while being guided by the teacher. Montessori classrooms are designed in a multi-age mix to reflect society outside the learning environment. The classrooms are beautiful by design. They are set up in an open style, with work areas throughout the room and materials available on accessible shelving. Most lessons are given to small groups or individual children while other children are working independently. The teacher assesses what the children have learned and then guides them into new areas of discovery.
Exercise and physical activity play an essential part of children’s health and wellbeing. Physical activity allows children to move freely using a variation of movements, developing their gross motor skills. Music and Movement allows each child to express themselves whilst learning rhythm, dance, songs and games. This also has a positive impact on supporting children’s social, emotional, cognitive and language development.
Our afternoon class caters for a mixed age group, three years to six years. The program is designed to meet the developmental needs of each child through physical activities. We currently have two specialists during Nursery time, Music & Movement and Karate so we would like to continue specialising in different activities and open it up to the community to take advantage of the great facilities and specialists we have to offer in Football and Dance for our Monday Club.
